Marketing is one of those fields where learning never really stops. As a marketer, I know just how fast things change, new tools appear overnight, and trends disappear faster than they arrived. It’s easy to get buried in your daily tasks and slowly lose touch with what’s happening outside your corner of the industry.

Whether you're just starting out or have been in the game for a while, continuous learning isn't just a nice-to-have — it's essential.

In this post, I want to share the resources that helped me grow: books, courses, conferences, and even a few unexpected sources of inspiration.

But first, here are a few mistakes I made early on, in case they sound familiar and you want to avoid them:

🚫 What I Learnt the Hard Way

1. Learn to Learn
Not everything you study will stick—unless you apply it. Theory fades quickly if it’s not reinforced with practice. Whenever I take a course or read a book, I try to immediately ask: How can I use this at work?

2. Don't Chase Certificates for the Sake of It
Certifications look great on LinkedIn, sure—but they’re not the goal. Focus on what you want to do in marketing. What skills are you missing for your next role or current challenge? Learn with intent.

3. You Can’t Boil the Ocean
There’s always another course, another article, another trend. Trying to learn everything will only lead to burnout and confusion. Choose what’s relevant now, topic that will benefit your career/growth. The rest can wait.

📚My Favorite Learning Resources

🧠 Courses
Courses are a casual and flexible way for me to learn, though they do require time and effort to apply the theory in practice. These are the platforms I personally recommend:

  • Google Skillshop
Great for digital ads, analytics, and even AI in marketing.

  • HubSpot Academy
Excellent for upskilling in content, inbound, and email marketing.

  • Product Marketing Alliance (PMA)
They offer both short courses on specific topics and in-depth programs on product marketing. Don’t miss the chance to join the Product Marketing Scholar program—it's free, includes mentorship, and covers all the essential practical knowledge you need in product marketing and marketing in general.

  • SEMRush Academy
Best in class for SEO-related topics.

🎤 Conferences & Events
A great way to stay on top of trends and grow your network. I’m a big fan of attending following marketing events:

  • BrightTalk
    Really useful for B2B marketers.

  • PMA Events
Focused on real-world product marketing challenges.

  • CRN Events
Great if you’re in the tech and channel marketing space.

📖 Books about marketing
Not many people find time to read these days, but if you do, you’ll discover marketing treasures that no course can offer. My favorite marketing books are:

  • Obviously Awesome by April Dunford – A step-by-step guide to positioning that helped me structure real projects at work.

  • Loved by Martina Lauchengco – A must-read for modern B2B marketers rethinking emotional resonance and value-based messaging.

  • Jobs-to-be-Done: Theory to Practice by Anthony Ulwick – A repeatable framework to uncover what customers really need.

  • Thinking, Fast and Slow by Daniel Kahneman – Less marketing, more mindset—but a powerful book for understanding decision-making.

🎬 Movies & Series That Taught Me About Marketing
Who says learning has to be hard work?
Sometimes, all it takes is a good movie night with friends to spark a fresh marketing insight.
If you have some free time in the evening, here are a few movies I’d recommend:

Final Thoughts
You don’t need to learn everything, everywhere, all at once (though the movie is worth watching). But you do need to keep learning to be a demanded employee or an expert — whether through structured courses or spontaneous inspiration. Whatever fuels your curiosity, follow it.
